Traveller’s Socks

Traveller’s Socks

Need a pair of cosy socks to match a Traveller’s hat? A quick & easy pair of socks, suitable for either men or women, plain yarn or multi coloured. The leg is worked in garter rib & the foot is worked in stocking stitch, although the garter rib could be continued on the foot if preferred. They can be knitted using double or single garter rib.

To knit the socks using double garter rib:

Cast on 64 stitches using a stretchy cast on ( I use a doubled long tailed cast on, which is ideal) on four double pointed needles, 16 stitches per needle. Join carefully.

Work 12 rows (or whatever length you prefer) in Knit 2, Purl 2.

Then work double garter rib until the sock measures 6 inches or your preferred length.

To work garter rib:

Row One: Knit all stitches.

Row Two: Knit 2, Purl 2 to the end

To work the heel:

Knit sts. from needle 1 onto needle 4 [28, (30, 32) stitches on needle 4] Ignore stitches on Needles 2 & 3
Row 1: Sl 1 stitch purlwise, p27, (29, 31)
