Its big and blue & as far north as i can go (without a boat!)

A leisurely journey for the 60 or so miles from Brora to John o Groats! Can’t go no further north without a boat! We stopped at cute tiny harbours such as the one at Lathernwheel & a jolly big Tesco’s at Wick before arriving at Duncansby Head. The view across to Orkney was stunning. The photo doesn’t do it justice but I will stick it in anyway. The ords & the sea stacks were fantastic – tons of geography! The puffins had gone but there were still plenty of seabirds in residence. John o Groats is a little bit tatty, the John o Groats hotel is all shut up but it is really uncommercial compared to it’s southerly cousin down at Lands End & very easy going. We have had two ‘ Brian’ conversations – one with a local on Tesco’s carpark who was off to search the Internet for demountable campers & one in franglais with the French owner of a. Swedish demountable. The agreement was that they were much better than big motorhomes!?

We are now at Dunnet Head Caravan Club site for the next two nights. Caravan Club sites are a bit like Holiday Inns. Not exciting, no silly frills but well appointed & in decent locations. This one has direct access to Dunnet Bay, about 5 miles of beautiful beach – hopefully we can manage a bit of beach weather! We have body boards & wetsuits although the sea is pretty calm at the moment. We will have to see what tomorrow brings!
