North with an iphone!

I am going to ‘diary blog’ as we head north on our camping trip. Writing dates & the date it lands in blogland may vary according to phone connections! We are currently in Edinburgh where the 3G signal is excellent, however further north we might be lucky to get 2G! The plan is to head right up to the north coast of Scotland. We reckon it was twelve years ago when we were last there when we did a ‘ round Scotland’ trip with caravan, two elderly Border Collies and an eight year old boy! 21 days, 20 with rain at times! Well we have one middle aged Border Collie, Brian the demountable camper & the boy is nearly 21 and over 600 miles away working for a watersports company in Jersey! As for the rain… well it didn’t rain on Friday, the day we set off!

The plan for today is to explore Edinburgh a bit! We want to find some of Antony Gormley’s statues along the Waters of Leith although high water levels have apparently washed two of them over following storms this week. According to the BBC they were designed to do this, avoiding adding to the flood risk! Ohhhhh I feel a geographical moment coming on!

We came north from Berwick upon Tweed yesterday. We found ‘Woolfish’ at St.Abbs & I made my first yarn purchase! 2 skeins of cream merino, alpaca & silk chunky! I think luxury mittens! The lovely lady there also gave some sound tourist information that took us to Cove, via a smugglers tunnel! Photo below, taken with the Hipstomatic app to capture a time gone by!
